Intro to MSA of Continuous Data – Part 6: R&R for Non-Replicable Measurements

Posted 24th July 2009 at 08:33 PM by Miner
This is the sixth in a series of articles about MSA. The focus of this article will be on measurement repeatability and reproducibility for non-replicable measurement systems, commonly called a destructive test.

Okay, what exactly is a non-replicable measurement system and why is it not just called a destructive measurement system? Let’s start with the definition of replicate.

In statistics, a replicable measurement system is one where any given part may be measured...

Intro to MSA of Continuous Data – Part 7: R&R using Wheeler’s Honest Gage Study

This is the seventh in a series of articles about MSA. The focus of this article will be on alternative approaches to evaluating the repeatability and reproducibility (R&R) of a measurement system.

The de facto standard for R&R studies has been the approach documented in the AIAG MSA manual and required of companies certified to ISO TS 16949. As quality personnel move from the automotive industry into other industries, this approach has gained widespread familiarity...

Statistical process control for precision machining Part 1

Posted 2nd December 2008 at 04:27 PM by bobdoering

The unique requirements for control charting precision machining processes have been shared throughout many threads in the forum. I have decided to find a spot to put the concept all in one place.

STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL FOR PRECISION MACHINING

Many folks have attempted to implement X-barR charts for years in precision machining applications, only to be frustrated by tightly compressed control limits or unexpected bimodal distributions. The problem turns out...

Is This Charting Accepted By The Big 3 Automotive OEMs?

I have found that all customers (Big 3 and Japanese transplants) that I have trained on this concept (as a supplier) have accepted the concept, including its use for PPAP submissions. When it is all said and done, its simplicity makes it more understandable to customers and operators. There is no guarantee that every SQE will follow along. After all, we know the automotive industry better than that.... Most importantly, it follows...

What Keeps Us from Learning?

Posted 22nd July 2008 at 09:53 AM by Dvora (Dvora's Musings on Quality)

Thinking about some of the things in my first blog, about learning to use the tools we use...

I think another issue we all must face - whatever our primary skill - is what interferes with learning. We know people get frustrated with things like MS Word... and the tools are out there to learn, but many simply do not learn. Why?

I can only think of my own experience, what keeps me from learning, and what I've observed when I've trained others.

A biggy...
