Which trainings I need in order to accomplish this clause related to internal auditor competency (IATF 16949:2016)?

Thank you in advance.

Following trainings would help to gain necessary competence and qualify as Internal auditor for IAF16949.

Internal auditor training for IATF16949:2016, ISO 9001:2015

Training on core tools (MSA, SPC, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, APQP & Control Plan).

Training on customer specific requirements.

But, competence evaluation is required prior to selection as an Internal auditor (Refer clause 7.2.3 for competency requirements) even after training.

Thanks,
Amit

My opinion the way this is going is you'll need to attend one of the big time, expensive, auditing classes. A basic class/training won't get you there. I think they are basically looking for "certified" internal auditors.

Nope. Internal auditors must be competent. The organization decides how this is accomplished and verified. Records are required.

The trainer (Internal or External) must be competent. Records of competency are required.

3rd Party Auditors can not make up a requirement that "expensive, auditing" classes are required.

Yes but they can make your life miserable trying to "prove" it. A cert from a well known privide makes that easy.

Its not that difficult.

Experience / training certificates of Internal / external trainer would be sufficient to demonstrate competence of the trainer.

So I received an email from our registrar and they specifically addressed internal auditor competency. Basically they compared the requirements of their auditors and the 12+ hours they spent upgrading their qualifications with the suggestion that anything less could be a problem for internal auditors. As I suggested, it's trending toward "certified" internal auditors.

No, there is no requirement for Internal Auditors to be certified. They are to be selected, trained and competency of them is to be tracked.

Based on benchmarking with several other companies:

The best way to achieve this is to put a list of auditor traits together ( "what do YOU look for in an auditor" )

If you have a certified Lead auditor on staff, they can train. If not, select a training source. (Don't forget to have them provide their training and competence evidence)

Have the auditors perform audits under guidance of a Lead Auditor. This person can provide evidence of competency.

Ensure they receive training in core tools and CSR. AIAG has a great tool ( free) to evaluate their knowledge of the core tools.

Select a frequency that you can meet, to ensure competency is evaluated on a continuing basis.

Select a minimum number of audits ( typically on an annual basis) that an auditor must perform in order to remain active ( or qualified)

Even lead internal auditor does not need 3 rd certificate? Hmm..i dont read requirement of that.but I am not sure to do so..probably registar has different point of view?
