Electro-coating PFMEA rankings needed

Tonight! time is always short. Can anyone give me FMEA rankings for ecoating fenders and mower decks for companies such as Harley, Polaris, John Deere, Toro ,etc.?

My manager beleives the standard AIAG rankings apply and I argue that paint is not going to keep a car from starting or cause the drivetrain to stop working. As such, it is not mechanical.

Is anyone out there that can give examples of the severity # for e-coat chipping off? A 4 or a 7? The arguement needs a little help.

Assume that the failure mode has occurred...What will be the effects? Who and/or what will be inconvenienced by such a failure mode? Think short term and long term. That will give you some guidance when determining the severity ranking.

I doubt you will get anything this specific, so I threw together an example of how you might tailor one for your company.

Thanks Miner! What about Detection/Prevention and occurrence? This has been a great help!

For occurrence, use something to which your line operators can easily relate such as occurs every rack, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. You do not need to stick to a 10 point scale.

For Detection, base it on your existing control methods. For example, you will not be doing salt spray or gravelometer very frequently, so they are unlikely to detect an issue. You may do some type of adhesion or scratch test a little more regularly, but not necessarily on every lot or rack, so it may be better, but still not great. You probably do visual checks for fish eyes and orange peel, so they will be effective for that, but not for thickness or peeling.

I would probably say a 4. It is only going to be cosmetic at first with little loss of performance, unless however it rusts out?
