SAE AS9015 Supplier Self Verification Process - Delegation Programs.

Hello all,

We recently had a contract cite AS9015 for delegation of product verification. What does this standard apply to? Purchased product? Final product to be shipped to the customer? Both?

A few examples where I'm thinking this may apply...

-We send out component parts for plating or coating which we then incorporate into our final product. To verify, we typically accept our vendor's certification.

-For some final products, we require testing to be performed at an outside laboratory (we cannot perform the testing in-house). We accept a test report as verification that the products passed the test.

Do both of these situations fall under this standard for delegating verification? Neither?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Re: AS9015 Delegation

From http://standards.sae.org/as9015/
This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) further defines the requirements for a delegation process identified in Aerospace Quality Management System (AQMS) standards (i.e., AS9100, AS9110, AS9120). This standard establishes minimum requirements for the delegation of product verification to an organization's suppliers; outlining requirements for the initial delegation (qualification/selection), maintenance, and removal/withdrawal of delegations

This standard applies when you authorize specific individual(s) from your supplier to approve products on your behalf.

The examples you listed, you still retain acceptance authority, but you have outsourced the inspection/test. You still review the CoC's, test reports, etc to accept the product, but you have not delegated authority to your supplier.
