Accessing and Using Databases via a Tablet Device

I did a search for "tablet" and didn't see much in results, so hopefully this isn't already a :deadhorse: question already.

Does anyone have experience with using databases that are easily usable via a tablet device?

Right now we have a stack of paper forms for items like 200% part verification or response to out of control measurements, which aren't really that helpful for continual improvement or searching for a specific piece of data as is, so I'd like that information to start going into a database. I'd also like for the operator/quality tech/processor/ ice cream truck driver / whoever to be able to enter the data as the task is being performed, rather than having to have someone need to enter the data later.

I unfortunately do not own a tablet to play around with any database software myself, so I thought I would see if any one here has experience with MS Access, Cellica, or any other database software or web-based services usable on a portable device that they could share.

:thanx:

You may want to look at using a html based front end that can be accessed through any web browser. It is relatively trivial to set up a few tables SQL tables that the webpage can then read/write from

It is certainly doable, but you will either need to learn some programming or have a friendly IT department.

We run multi-page interactive forms into a SQL database with ease on tablets and smartphones, but that is a focus of our IT group.

Having dug around a little through a corporate contact, it sounds like one of our sister plants are doing that pkost. I'll have to see if I can "borrow" it.

Appreciate the feedback!

Try the Microsoft Surface Tablet. It runs all windows applications and has a keyboard option and a USB port (which many tablets lack).
