Evaluation of Supplier & Evaluation of Outsourced Services different?

Dear All,

we are in chemical mfg.industry. We have well documented supplier evaluation procedure & form . We are preparing for ISO 9001:2008 .
Seniors will pls explain me that for supplier evaluation ( Raw material) & outsourced process/Service evaluation are same or different?
If same can we use single form for supplier evaluation or we need to generate two different procedure & two diifferent forms for this.

Outsourced products and services are simply those you don't do yourself so as long as your controls address both products and services, you should be fine.

I suggest that you do not get tied down by the fixed forms for this activity. Evaluate and select based on :
1. Effect of the purchased product on subsequent processes and your final product
2. Ability to supply products in line with your requirements.
Hence make a set of guidelines based on which you will assess your supplier or out sourced services.
The meaning of evaluation and selection is same for either of them. What you will look for will differ from supplier to supplier or source to source.

Ask yourself if you evaluate a production (raw) material supplier the same as your evaluate a service (consultant). You may need different forms, and your procedure may need to be expanded to include all types of suppliers/services.

We use the typical production evaluation, evaluate the QMS. For services we evaluate based on the type of service. We look for experience for the type of work (welding), experience on our type of equipment (healthcare), ability to travel, etc.

Hi, this is my first incorporation to a forum, hope I can get the answer I need.
We are an electronic manufacturer in Mexico, our corporate is in U.S.A.
Our Quality system is independent for the corporate, we purchase product (raw material) in our facility but we do not evaluate and/or select any of our suppliers. This activity is made by our corporate, we just buy from the suppliers that are already selected by them.
Can I exclude the selection and evaluation of suppliers in my quality system? What would be the best way to reflect this in our quality manual or procedures?

I would not exclude this.

I would state that you supplier selection and evaluation is performed by Corporate. I would define the process of how the supplier selection is communicated to your facility.

You do need to add that you will monitor the quality and delivery (whatever Supplier measures Corporate wants) of products and communicate this information to Corporate for their evaluation.
