Question Is it normal if measurement uncertainty is less than equipment accuracy

hi all,

if my expanded uncertainty is lesser than my reference equipment accuracy, is it normal?

Re: Is it normal if measurement uncertainty is less than equipment accuracy

It's been a long time since I did any uncertainty calculations, but since the equipment variation is only one component of it, I don't see how the total uncertainty can be less than equipment uncertainty.

Hello, Duke. Good to see you pop in.

Your statement is accurate. However, I did notice the OP stated equipment accuracy (as opposed to equipment uncertainty).

In that case, if the other contributors to the total uncertainty were fairly minor compared to the equipment accuracy, then I might could see the total uncertainty lower than the accuracy.

But definitely to your point, the total uncertainty would not be less than the contribution of the equipment uncertainty.
