In my experience London doesn't 'do cheap' at anything! Unfortunately, like most capital cities it is pretty expensive. Depending on what you are looking to do, it may be a better option to stay outside of the city and travel in.

If you are a little more specific by what you mean as cheap then I may be able to help. As people have said, London isn't exactly "cheap". Hotel chains that provide literally a comfortable bed and nothing else will charge upwards of 100GBP a night in central london. They will charge ~40GBP elsewhere.

London is also a pretty big place. But it does have a good travel network. If you are willing to be a little way outside the centre then you may have a better chance of finding a cheap and reasonable hotel
