Question Does TS 16949 clearly require an annual product re-validation?

Dear

how do you interpret the point af the ISO/TS about product layout/product requalification?

In our company we re-qualify our product with a product audit each two years.

Does the ISO/TS clearly require an annual product re-validation?

Thanks
Paolo

Re: Does TS 16949 clearly require an annual product re-validation?

TS (in 8.2.4.1) requires that a layout inspection and functional verification be performed, but does not specify that it needs to be performed more than once (i.e. at initial PPAP submission).
There is (to the best of my knowledge) no specific requirement in any of the AIAG documents for an annual validation; this is usually referenced in your customer-specific requirements.

Yes, be sure to search all customer documentation for these requirements. A single line in a supplier quality manual which states "annual validation for all parts is required at the suppliers expense" just cost us $1000 in outside testing. The requirement to follow the manual is listed somewhere upstream in the purchasing documents. Poor contract review on our part, but I am also concerned with customer requirements that state "you must follow what our website says" which they can change at will after the contract review is done.

You make a very good point, but insofar as the potential for customers to move the goalposts is concerned, you should not agree to undefined requirements. If documents (including those on websites) are included in the contract by reference, the referenced documents should be controlled. That is to say, you're agreeing to abide by the revision of the requirements that's current at the time the contract is signed. No one should ever sign a contract that includes reference to uncontrolled requirements.

This is a very common occurrence, the requirements are not passed on by marketing as they do not think that they are important.
There are now IATF requirements to audit contracts and not just purchase orders

There is no requirement in the standard for annual layouts or PPAPs or anything else. These things might be specified by customers, however.
