Boeing QA Auditors Fired
Last night on the Australian SBS TV network, "Dateline" program aired a story about auditors from Boeing auditing their subcontractors and what happended to them.
To make a long stroy short; Boeing's subcontractors were supplying fualty 'cords' the ribs of the plane that go around the circumference of the plane, to Boeing.
Internal auditors audited the subcontractor who was supposed to be making parts using CNC machines but they made them by hand instead and most were out of spec.
The sub-contractors did nothing and Boeing did nothing, The auditors where threatended with their jobs and they went to the Justice Department who did nothing. Now they are out of work and faulty parts are still being supplied.
This is the link to the program.

I think Dateline said the program was sourced from the English speaking Al Jazeera TV.
Who said being a QA person was easy?

Re: Boeing QA Auditors Fired
Ouch, I hope we get to the bottom of this matter and in a hurry - the media has an important role that I think we should recognize for cases like this. Several years ago, I worked for a Boeing supplier and I remember occasionally thinking our aircraft's flight was depending on the assembly mechanics' sense of craftsmanship, and that we need to make sure we preserve that.
I remember listening to my dad when he came home from his aerospace Manufacturing Engineer job sometimes. He would say to my mom, "He's on my side" and my mom would ask "Why does there have to be sides?" My dad is gone 21 years now and I miss him more as time goes by, because I feel like I understand him more, and I feel more of a kinship to him as I go along.

kgott,
All parties involved have "Responsibility" and "Accountability" for their actions. What makes it all work is the "Honesty". Thanks for the info.

Re: Boeing QA Auditors Fired
Thats exactly right but, these people even went to the department of justice to try and get them to do something. After promising them they would investigate and keep their identify secret, the DOJ did nothing.
Who is going to keep Boeing honest?
In the program they showed how the faulty planes which had run off runways etc, broke into 3 places, in exactly the same 3 places, where the faulty parts were installed on all ecases in the examples shown. They then compared this to a trail crash which did not break into 3 parts, where the parts complied to spec.
What this showed is that there are unsafe planes (A3 something???) flying in the skies.!

Wow! This is going to be big. I wonder how soon it will be picked up by the US press.

Re: Boeing QA Auditors Fired
Going by the dates and the number of links in your post I'm wondering why the Australian media didin't pick it up long ago?
