AS9100 Requirements for Direct and Indirect Procurement
Hello everybody
As far as I can see, the standard does not state requirements for indirect procurement processes.
I consider that process is very important and should be enclosed in the QMS as a supporting process due to it is need to get infrastructure supplies (workspace, equipment, utilities, etc.).
I plan to make referece to indirect procurement process in our quality manual section 6.3.
Do you believe I am in the right way? or..can you help me address this in our QMS? Do you believe it is necessary?
Thank you in advance for your feedback

From what I have seen in other QMS processes mapping, Purchasing is always considered as one of the Support Processes in the overall mapping to show links and interactions among all the identified processes.
Probably you could highlight the activities of the Purchasing in a level one and level two maps where you will consider their activities , otherwise in the related area procedures.
To do so, first you should assess the internal processes and responsibilities of Purchasing with their process owners. Another way to proceed is to creat a general document of the Purchasing or a manual where there is description of their processes and the reference of the procedure, including KPI and process owner. This could be link in your Quality Manual.
The fact is it is necessary or not is up to the organization and this is a decision to take together with the placet of top management.
hope this helps

Does this mean that I may include a new section in the Quality Manual for indirect purchasing.
I also thought in including indirect purchasing in the section 7.4. Would that be an option considering requirements in 7.4 are intended for direct purchasing? is that possible/correct?
Regards

Direct Procurement is the purchase of raw materials, components, etc. that are part of the finished part or assembly while...
Indirect procurement applies for operations supplies that support the product processes (like equipmement, tools, office supplies for personnel, etc.)

Your categorizations could cause you some problems. AS9100C doesn't use those terms.
What is required is that you control purchased product and their suppliers that affect your final product. ("The type and extent of control applied to the supplier and purchased product shall be dependent upon the effect of the purchased product on subsequent product realization or the final product.")
Supplies that support the product processes certainly might effect your final product. Equipment and tools certainly would, at least in most cases. Janitorial supplies and stationary likely would not.
You should either re-define direct and indirect, or find other terminology.

Hi,
if you have a procedure for Purchasing processes could be insterted there.
However it is up to you how to better fit.
I have seen both solutions as well as the description of pruchasing process in specific process flow or process mapping with the link to referenced procedures.
