Please Help! Data Protection Act Legislation - What do we do to comply?

There is a Data Protection Act in UK. But in countries like India we dont have data protection legislation.

Our company intends to adhere to Data Protection legislations.

I would like to know what exactky one should do if we want to comply with data protection. Where can I get information on data protection principles followed in other countries - German, Japan, France,Singapore.

How one should implement the data protection practices. The DPA of UK mentions about Data Protection Officer. What the role is envisaged of this person

First, don't panic!
Second, "Data Protection" is similar to Privacy laws in the USA. We are all trying to work our way through this concept of protecting the personal information of individuals from prying eyes of others.

Take a wander through Google, using terms like "Privacy Act" or "Data Protection Officer" and see what a lot of others are doing.

Strictly speaking, this is a Business Management Function, rarely a Quality Management Function, except where it might deal with personnel records of training, etc., which would still be covered by Organization's Business Management System.
