Carbon Fundamentals
With Insights by Dr. Mark Trexler
Tuesday, July 14, 2009, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Registration starts at 8:30 a.m.)

Palace Hotel – San Francisco, CA
Featuring
Dr. Mark C. Trexler, long-time Climatographer, and DNV Director of Climate Strategies & Markets, is an expert in helping companies evaluate their risks and opportunities in a carbon constrained world by using strategies from early action crediting to carbon offsets and internalizing carbon prices.

Opportunities
In a world of too much and misleading information about climate change issues, it can be difficult to separate the facts from the myths and to decide what to do. This course gives you the basic knowledge about climate change and an overview of the opportunities in the regulated and voluntary carbon markets.

Who should attend?
The target group is technical and non-technical staff of different parts of the carbon business, including managers, business developers, marketing and sales staff.

What will you learn?
  • The basics of climate change science and the rationale for acting
  • Key regulations, standards and voluntary schemes on greenhouse gas emissions
  • The roles and responsibilities of the different players in the carbon markets
How can we help you?
DNV is a leader in the field of climate change management with comprehensive services that enable the public and private sectors to understand and minimize their exposure to carbon-related risks. We have extensive knowledge of the regulatory framework in place as well as proposed changes to the landscape, globally and domestically.

July 15, 16, and 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. on July 15) San Francisco Orchard Garden Hotel – The “greenest” boutique hotel in SF

Guidance
The rules and regulations for the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) are fast changing. This also affects voluntary offset schemes like the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Gold Standard. This course enables you to understand the latest guidance and update your skills in an efficient way.

Who should attend?
The target group is for technical staff of carbon funds, consultants and project developers. It is assumed that the leaner has basic knowledge of how carbon offset projects work or has taken part in DNV’s course on Carbon Fundamentals.

What will you learn?
  • Application of baseline and monitoring methodologies
  • Analyzing project additionality
  • Developing monitoring plans
  • The steps of the project cycles under the standards CDM, JI, VCS and Gold Standard
