Re: U.S. to Order Steep Pay Cuts at Firms That Got Most Aid
I'll explain it as simply as I can- I pointed out the Democrats because President B.H.O. is a Democrat. He is the one using this bully pulpit to apease the masses. If John McCain had come up and said the same thing, I would have jumped on him for being an opportunist and trying to play up to the people. He didn't. Since the President is the one who brought this up let's set back and see how well he handles this. My bet is in 2 years it will be business as usual on Wall Street.
Doug
PS. I haven't a clue as to what you are getting at with the defense figures.

Motives aside, I think it's a good idea to do something to appease the masses. Call that by a different name and you might say those masses are really stakeholders now, and are understandably upset with the disconnect between business prerogatives in the finance community and the rest of commerce. The fact is there is little else that can practically be done unless some robust reform is enacted. This is low hanging fruit, but it still matters. Citizens are really angry. Imagine what the comments would be if the government said nothing, giving tacit approval for the finance community to do as they please. Damed if you do, damned if you don't. Being damned appears to be largely based on what political party one is affiliated with.

Re: U.S. to Order Steep Pay Cuts at Firms That Got Most Aid
Jennifer, I fully agree that his intensions are correct. I just would have been far more impressed if I would have read in the paper that action had been taken as opposed to hearing another teleprompter speech of how he is going to correct it in the future. Like NIKE says - "Just do it!" I tire of hollow talk.

I'll go for that. But is it really hollow talk? Or is it useful to voice his intentions and plans so there is a way to know what to expect before it happens? What would be served in the transparency movement if he simply did stuff like that and then mentioned it - or let someone else bring it up? Is that the right way to lead from the highest management position in the country?
Is it the mention of intentions that bothers you, or the lack of follow through? If it's the lack of follow through, is the intention the problem, or mentioning he has one, or the cause(s) of its being thwarted?
Would it help if he shot from the hip or used an index card?

I slightly mis-understood your point, if your issue is talk with a lack of action, why word it as 'Democrat donors get bailed out by their allies in Congress'? You added a partisan attack when one didn't need to exist.
Also, calling him 'B. H. O.' is generally done by the type of people who post on Freerepublic or Stormfront and to me when I see it, I write the person off.

Whether you agree or disagree with our President, he deserves to be addressed with his name instead of initials.
