Please Help! How long does it take to get the ISO 9001 certificate after passing the audit?

Dear all,

We are being audited last September 2010 for ISO 9001 certification. And we are recommended for certification by the ISO auditor.
Question: How long does it take for us to get the certificate?
Who is the final person to decide if we will get the certificate? The certifying body not the auditor alone right? I need some details on this ASAP.
Thanks.

Have you tried contacting your Registrar? They could certainly tell you the status of your audit findings and cert.

Re: How long does it take to get the ISO certificate after passing the ISO audit

The registrar will issue you a certificate upon succesfull completion of the audit (all NC's are closed, payments is made, etc.) The actual paper certificate may not arrive for weeks, however once you have satisfied the requirements of the audit and passed, you are technically certified and can represent yourself as such. You only need to contact your liaison with your registrar and have them tell you (via e-mail for example) that everything is completed and your certificate will be on its way.

Bottom-line, once the audit is closed, you are certified. Unless of course when the audit concluded you failed, which would not be good

Re: How long does it take to get the ISO certificate after passing the ISO audit

It obviously depends on the CB/Registrar - September is a long time to be waiting since assuming that you have cleared any outstanding N/C's.

I am not sure about being able to tell everyone you are certified until you get the cert though. My statement includes the words (assuming they are to be recommended) "I am pleased to recommend you for certification, but the report will need to be reviewed by a technical person ..." The auditor alone cannot say "you have passed".

Yes we already cleared all the NC's and the final audit report says " proceed for certification".
All i need is a clear objective evidence about our status. Ok so I probably need to call the CB and ask them about the details pertaining to the audit they did in my company.

Thanks.

If the CB formally closes the audit and states (in any form of media) you are certified, you are good to go. The paper cert shows objective evidence of this once received. However the organization is certified once the audit is closed & the CB makes the statement.

Might be something that could be done in an email from the certification body that would suffice until the actual certificate is received.
