The financial materiality of sustainability performance data relating to energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, supply chain policies and environmental management is growing. As a result, a wider range of senior managers need confidence in these data sets and management systems. To help decision-makers in roles like Head of External Affairs, Chief Risk Officer, CFO and Head of Sustainability this Green Quadrant report provides a detailed, fact-based comparison of the assurance services provided by 13 global suppliers. The analysis is based on interviews with 15 international buyers representing firms with combined revenues of $362 billion, supplier responses to a 48 point questionnaire and interviews with industry experts from a variety of standards bodies. The study finds that six suppliers currently lead the market –– Bureau Veritas, Deloitte, DNV, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PwC. These six suppliers offer the broadest and deepest set of capabilities internationally and have the greatest market momentum.

As the financial weight of sustainability risks increases, companies are investing more in sustainability assurance and are more likely to buy this assurance from a leading brand, Verdantix said. ....SNIP....
According to the research, adding credibility to external communications is the key purchase driver, with 87 percent of respondents citing this as a chief concern. Buyers shortlist assurance providers based on their experience with relevant standards, their sustainability expertise, and accreditation with standards or certification bodies. Cost effectiveness ranks fourth in importance as a purchasing consideration.
