Just wanting to share how I am taking on an industry I've not worked with yet, a tattoo and piercing studio here in Ottawa, ON.
As a Improvement Specialist, I have always maintained that any industry can benefit from lean, sound QA principles and an organizational structure that continuously improves for customers, staff and shareholders. Tattoo studios too!
My first "current state audit" was completed yesterday where I dug into things first hand.
I must say, the studio is clean, healthy and organized moreover most
any healthcare facility I've been in! Certainly above expectations for the retail side of the business as well.
While many areas of improvement can be made, it is amazing how I am able to jump in and preform step 2 & 3 of my consultation and operations direction work! I am really looking forward to this. The owner is sharp and so easy to persuade to a better way-- if I have to at all!
Our goals (to start)
Safety: Bolster safety even further! Hospitals and labs will be asking us for advice!
5S: is already quite good, but can be 100% in a short time.
Inventory: Reduce by 50-60%, increase turns, increase sales.
Flow: workflow and station design in administration areas. Reduce time on tasks for operations.
Overhead: Reduce costs of operations by 15-20% in first year
Sales/service: Increase revenue by 50-70% by year two of change initiative.
Training: Create a robust staff training package adapted from current procedures.
Job creation: Hire and train.
Auditing: Implementation of daily rather than weekly audits.
Marketing: Revamp/update marketing image and content across various platforms (internal & external). New professional photo portfolio.
And yes... I'll likely have some new ink tapped in during all of this!
