I Say... GM Cruze Recall - Seems that the Cruze can catch fire

So happy I chose the Camry over the Cruze. Seems as the Cruze can catch fire. See link

BTW. I could not find this news in the normal Yahoo news headlines.

Re: Cruze recall

At least it was voluntary after a whopping 2 engine compartment fires. All of this because some guy can not change oil without spilling it everywhere? Those GM guys are so not quality focused.

Unlike Mr. Toyoda

Re: Cruze recall

I trust the AP more than a blogger. According to AP "GM said Friday that the fires can ignite when fluids drip onto a plastic shield below the engine. GM knows of 30 fires caused by the problem. No injuries have been reported."
The two fires iniated a NHTSA investigation in the bloggers article. Also read the AP article "Cruzes with worn-out manual transmissions also can leak fluid." A worn out transmission in a car less than two years old. Now either the person has no business in a standard and probably could not get off the dealers lot or its awfully quick for a transmission to be worn out. IMO

Cited AP linked below.

http://www.masslive.com/business-new...ruze_cars.html

Also I told a fellow employee who has the Cruze who called and the Dealers do not have details yet. But I do agree they did start the recall quickly.

PS I was happy that I chose not to buy that car and went with Yota as I am taking a long trip next week. But I was mainly posting this because it seems as if it was being buried in the news feeds and wanted owners to be made aware.

It's my general opion that the folks at GM couldn't find their butt with both hands. This is based on owning a few of there cars. The first was a Vega..need I say more? I was also a supplier for some time. Too top heavy in management and don't forget the union.

With the exception of the union thing I can say after 20 years of dealing with all major car manufactures in US, Japan, Germany, Korea and India....no difference. Prior to 17 years ago I have no idea. My first and only Corolla was the biggest POS I have ever owned. I have no brand loyalty to any company or region (currently own 1 US, 1 Japan and 1 European vehicle). Prior to that was brand loyal to Ford for most of my driving life but not exclusive to any one brand. I just do not like the way that Toyota has a recall the major reaction is, "well it happens to everyone and no doubt about it they will fix it". With other companies, " they can't do anything right, I am not surprised this happened to them".

All I can say is, when I look at the actual warranty data I have access to see it is not those companies which most would expect with the least amount of claims. But they are all bunched very closely together.

Re: GM Cruze Recall - Seems that the Cruze can catch fire

I do not what the problems are. Is the engineers, labor, business model, or suppliers. I have three yotas. Two have had great mpg, reliability, and have over 150000 with no major repairs. I just traded in my Dodge Nitro for Camry. The Nitro needed two ac repairs. One around 40k the other around 60k. The Grand Am had cracked head. I do not know why they used aluminum. The LeSabre was a good car. The Reliant was good to me. I choose the Camry for its mpg and it not being a new model release. Also Toyota is here in Huntsville. Delphi (GM) has closed.
