I Say... Old "outdated?" standards - Seeking an ASE J964 "grind lead test method"

Anyone have a source for hardcopies of older ASE standards??

I have a company we are working with that is seeking an ASE J964 "grind lead test method". As I recall it has to do with a "specified weight" on the end of a "string" hanging above the finished rotating shaft - and the assessment for "grind lead error" is made by moving the string along the shaft and estimating/guestimating how far off the surface the string bounces..

(IMHO) the machinery used in industry today has far outdistanced the old "String and guestimate" approach..BUT thats what their customer wants so they are at least making an effort to comply.

In researching this - I've found "if they go d ASE that the cost would be viewed as "prohibitive" -- None at the facility are current ASE members - therefore the "Join-up" $120.00 fee Plus the cost of the publication itself would not " let's say set-well" with the upper management of the organization..

What about your local library or community college. I know a couple around Chicago have them.

Here are a few old sources I used way back for docs. Might give 'em a try:

Document Center - Phone 415-591-7600
National Standards Assoication - Phone 301-590-2300

Good luck.

Did you ever find a copy of ASE J964? I had an associate call me this morning looking for the same standard.
