For once, critics have to give in to the Government for their evacuation efforts. If not for the preparedness, damage would have been much more as yet. Hope the situation gets restored with minimal damage.

I have been in touch with my friends in Visakhapatnam, the costal city in Andhra state. Nothing major is reported from this part which is to the south west of the landfall point of the cyclone Phailin. The landfall point, Gopalpur in Odissa state and its district area was cut off from power and was in pitch darkness at the time of the landfall past 9pm last night. First pictures from these places show trees, roofing sheets and such other temporary structures spread all over and several roads that are blocked are being cleared for traffic movement. Some vans were seen turned over and were on its side. Assessment of the extent of loss of property and life will flow in during the course of the days... today the 9th and tomorrow the 10th and last day of Dushera festival.
So no festive mood around those regions certainly. The massive evacuation and setting up of relief camps by the army has saved a lots of life for sure.
