Calibration of ring thread gauge with master gauge: How to calculate Uncertainty?

Hello All

Thread ring gauge can be calibrated according to ISO 1502 with a master gage.

How should one calculate uncertainty, since there is no quantitative result, but OK/NOK?

This is a great question. Here is my opinion on the issue:

You do not need to calcualte the uncertaitny for the test of the thread ring. As you have pointed out, setting a thread ring with a set plug is a Go / NOGO Result.

I recommend the following:

Calibrate the set plug gage and compute the uncertainty for that. Use this set plug to set the thread ring. Note the following on the certificate for the thread ring as an example:

"A 1/4-20UNC -2B Set Plug gage with a Pitch Diamter of XXXXX was calibrated with an uncertainty of YYYYY. This setplug was used to set the thread ring per ZZZZZ"

where ZZZZZ is the procedure used for the test (ISO or ASME or whatever procedure you like to use).

I hope this helps and I am sure others will have some varying opinions.
