Incorporating green purchasing into federal agency environmental management systems

Hi everyone! EPA just posted its' guidance document on incorporating green purchasing into federal agency environmental management systems. It is full of examples of how agencies can incorporate green purchasing into the various elements of their EMSs. You can find the report at www.epa.gov/epp/ems.htm

A whole bunch of folks from different federal agencies worked on this.

This seems like it could be applied at real companies.

The odd thing about it is that this green purchasing implementation guidance document was published in April of 2005 and is based upon the ISO 14001:1996, not the 2004 version. I wonder if they are going to begin updating this thng to the new satndard now. Now is about a good time to have a conference in Vegas. Maybe this is an example of our tax dollars hardly at work.

Green Purchasing isn't really new to the Fed's. The Greening of the Government has been in effect for a couple of years now, such as Executive Order 13148 which requires all federal facilities to an EMS in place by Dec 31, 2005 (Executive Order 13148 of April 21, 2000 "Greening the Government Through Leadership in Environmental Management")
