Safe Disposal of No Clean Soldering Flux in NY State
Anyone know how we can safely dispose of 3 gallons of expired no clean soldering flux in NY State? Is it hazardous waste? Are regulations applicable?

I would check with your environmental health department for state and county to see what their requirements are. The MSDS for the solder flux we use does declare solder flux as a hazardous material and should be disposed of according to local governmental requirements. When we had the problem here, I had only 1 1/2 gallons to dispose of, and was told that our county dump had hazardous waste disposal for small quantities. So I would start with local government agencies and see what their requirements are for solder flux. You may just luck out (like I did) and be able to have a local dump accept it for a small fee.
Good luck.

They told me to call the EPA.

Re: Safe disposal of no clean soldering flux
Bunny,
You are getting the same "run-around" that I received with my small amount of solder flux. After I checked with the EPA (who told me to check with my state evironmental agency) I started to ask different hazardous waste removal providers in the area. I received bids from $200 to $750 to remove 1 and a half gallons of expired solder flux! During my search, one of the Hazmat removal companies told me to check with the county dump as they have a facility which accepts small amounts of Hazmat material for a small fee. I checked with them, and was told for $5 I could leave my gallon and a half solder flux with them and they would dispose of it according to the local regulations (which here in Utah allows solder flux to be incinerated at a high temperature). That is why in my post, I told you that you might what to check with the local dump if they handle small quantities of hazardous materials. I thought I would save you some time in your searching to find a way to dispose of your hazmat.
