If you visit the site http://www.bsi.org.uk - The directory used to be --> /bsi/news/welcome.html
and follow the instructions for BSI Projectline Database it shows publication expected 2005-01-01. Search for TR 16949.

2005???!!! I guess we don't have to worry about this standard for awhile. I tried to get to the same spot as you did, Rea, but was not able to. (My web navigation skills leave something to be desired!) I wonder, though, if this date is a misprint!

Just tried your directions and I couldn't find TR 16949 on the BSI website. Maybe they've updated their Website since your last visit?

Got it this time, Rea, but your directions were a little bit more specific this time around. Thanks.

Rea - thanks for the additional on the bsi site. I got into it this time and saw the 2005 publication date. With all the push for this standard by the Big 3 (or so it seemed last year), it is still hard to believe that publication date!! 4-5 years away? Hmmmm...looks like QS9000 is safe for now. This standards business sure is interesting. If the requirements don't get you, the issuing of new standards will!!

I have just reviewed http://www.aiag.org /pub/ and note that

TS . . . ISO/TS 16949 - Quality Systems - Automotive suppliers - Particular
requirements for the application of ISO 9001:1994
The International Automotive Task Force, IATF, has developed an optional common
automotive catalogue based on ISO 9001:1994, which along with use of the
customer-specific requirements and the common IATF recognized registration scheme,
will satisfy the current quality system requirements for AVSQ (Italian), EAQF (French),
QS-9000 (American) and VDA6.1 (German). Note: The ISO/TS 16949 does not
replace QS-9000; It is an optional document. Use of ISO/TS 16949 will eliminate the
need for multiple certifications. The ISO/TS 16949 customer-specific manual must be
purchased separately — see below.
Status: First Edition dated March, 1999.
Member/Non-Member $15.00

Does this mean that it is officially published? In addition there is customer specifics also available.

I guess so. I'll buy the document set and comment from that point. I did not realize they are for sale.

The address, for those interested, is http://www.aiag.org /pub/dcxfordgm.html

Has anyone had a chance to review the AIAG publication of TR16949? I wonder how different it is than the version that Marc had placed in the .pdf library (but had to take out!). I guess there won't be any guidelines for certifying auditors of this standard until late 1999.
