You may find most organizations that get into ISO 50001 already operate management systems that conform to ISO 14001.
They may already have identified energy usage as a significant environmental aspect so they already operate an EnMS as a subsystem to conserve energy.
Indeed, they may conform to ISO 50001 without realizing it.
So, does your organization's energy usage have a significant adverse environmental impact?
If yes, then determine in what ways energy is wasted, for example:
- Making and replacing nonconforming product
- Inefficient production processes
- Lack of insulation
- Excess lighting, heating and refrigeration
Establish processes, control measures, objective and targets to reduce the wasted energy.
Update the relevant management system documents to be assured of fulfilling the objectives and targets.
As you can see, ISO 50001 may be "implemented" without that specific intent and I am not sure how other people's system documents or data will help.
