ISO TC's 176 and 207 and other stakeholders (don't you love that word?) are developing a joint vision document for the alignment of ISO 9001 and 14001. For more information click here. Contrary to some rumours circulating in the "ISO community" there is strong opposition to an Integrated (Q&E) Management System Standard. ISO 9001 and 14001 should remain "stand alone" documents. But aligned....

Iso 9000:2005

Overheard the other day that ISO has issued a revised ISO 9001:2005 instead as an amendment.

Just a thought: if the objective of such standards is to define the requirements of a management system (of whatever kind), are there not a number of essential elements which must (should?) be present in ANY management system, irrespective of the particular element or feature being managed - so the idea of a basic set of requirements for a management system would make a lot of sense. And it would then be a simple job (?) to define what extra is needed to manage specific factors.

As I say, just a thought ...

That is ISO 9000:2005; NOT 9001. Already out. Check http://www.iso.org/iso/en/CatalogueDetailPage.CatalogueDetail?CSNUMBER=42180&ICS1=3&ICS2=120&ICS3=10

There are a number of those out there, but NOT an ISO Std. in the making...
Actually in another thread, I made a comment about how the TC's and TAGs are "political" entitiess and how convoluted the relationships are. Check this.

Not really if you think about it. Most "systems" have anywhere from 75%-90% of the same requirements (doc control, policy, audits, records management, etc) all that needs to be done is add in the specific Q - E - S garbage, toss in Finance & HR stuff and you pretty much have a "Business Management System". Most folks already have it and are doing it, they just haven't alingned the "elements" and think that way.

Sidney, what is "iso 9001:2012"? It's in your thread title.

Does that even exist?

Thanks,

Check out the dates on the thread. The thread was written in 2005. No such thing as ISO 9001:2012 or ISO 14001:2012.

Exactly. The title came from an ISO paper that used to be available in the hyperlink, in the original post.

Just like now, we have NO IDEA of when the next version of ISO 9001 will be released. It could be 2015 or 2020, according to the latest ISO TC176 report.
