DFMEA (Design FMEA) - We already have a PFMEA (Process FMEA)

Hello,
Our company decided to start the DFMEA. We already have a Pfmea and it was no problem to make it.
Our product is cash register for taller machine.
But with starting the Dfmea we have a problem. We already set the group members and made the list of custemer demands. So now is the time to start with comleting the DFMEA form.
Please for some advices how to start.
For example the first demand is to insure the security rate on the specific standard, next are all measures and tolerances which we must achive....

first, in my opinion, you can divide several discuss category, for instance, electrical items, mechnical items, software items, reliability items, compliance and regulation items, maybe you still have others.

and then, you can hold a brainstorming meeting, you and your team can identify what are easily wrong items or high risk items that they are not easily be developed in every category.

and the next step, you can mark score with your team, work out pentical failure cause and take preventive action.

But we only have a mechanical items. We only produce a safe chest. Not any electrical, software items.

We have aroud 200 diferent pieces( made on laser cut and bending ).This pieces are then welded together.And at the end we install locking mechanism.

So, do you mean that we must write into the dfmea form all items and do a brainstorming?

Simplified approach.

Let's start with the drawing(s). Make a characteristic matrix listing all the details of the drawing. From there you place the items listed on the characteristic matrix on the DFMEA. Next assign a Severity Rating, an Occurance rating (ideally based upon empirical data), and the Detection Rating. The decision as to whether the characteristic is Key or Critical is based on the threashold that has been established for the Severity and Occurance ratings.

These two ratings are linked to the PFMEA. You should not change either of these two ratings unless there has been a design change.

The team should be made up of a cross-functional group - it does not have to be the same group that participates in other FMEAs. I always liked inviting our external customer and suppliers to be a member of the FMEA teams.

Remember - the FMEAs are living documents and should not be made and then put into a corner to collect dust. They are there to help you get better. If you have a nonconformance because of a design flaw, then the DFMEA gets updated to include that failure. (Ooops! starting to make it a book)

DFMEA process is similar with PFMEA, just a little different for scoring system

like you start Process flow chart/process intention analysis before detailed analysis in PFMEA , you should start from block diagram and/or P diagram before DFMEA. that means you must understand the product/function requirements and its design characteristics firstly. then you can put the function requirments in the first column in DFMEA form, then consider design characteristics in coulum of Cause of Failure.
