Re: personal cell phones during working hours?

Yes, but only for emergencies. (e.g. pregnant wife, sick family member, etc.) It's written in our company handbook. I have seen employees get sent home for using their cell phone on company time for personal use.

Re: Personal cell phones during working hours

only on breaks.
For emergencies family are to call company line.
They are even discouraged for office staff and most of us follow along.

We don't make people switch them off, but the phone are to stay in a pocket or at the the workstation. Hands free devices are not allowed.
For hourly workers using a cell phone during work time = disciplinary action.

Re: Personal cell phones during working hours

The main restriction we have is that there is to be no cell phone use by anyone operating a moving vehicle.

A couple of years ago we started a project to install a radio antenna and radios in each of the forklifts. We were almost finished with the project when it became apparent that the guys were using their personal cell phones in place of the radios. Now, we don't require cell phones, but would likely have something in their place.

Works for us. Works well, in fact.

Re: Personal cell phones during working hours

No cell phone is allowed to be on during the work day. Not even on to check the clock. Off means off.

Only time you're allowed to use your cell phone is before work, during lunch, and after work. Personal calls on the company lines is also limited and for emergencies only.

You're at work, do work. You want to talk to someone on the phone, do it on your own time.

That's easy. No signal, no phone calls.

Re: Personal cell phones during working hours

Our company handbook has this statement:

The use of personal cellular phones is not permitted on company property during work hours.

Having said that, I hear MANY unusual ringtones throughout the day. I'm pretty sure no one enforces it.
