Departmental Chargebacks for Warranty Claims for New Products

We are developing a new process document for warranty claims, and the subject of chargebacks for newly introduced products has come up. Our sister companies use a 6 month period that if anything occurs with a newly introduced product, Engineering is charged. Of course, our Engineering manager is fighting it. Does anyone else have experience with this type of process?

That kind of requirement is usually balanced only by making certain they had the time and resources to develop the product correctly and fully. Not being familiar with your product line I wouldn't know, but in the fast changing field many of us play in that's not always the case.
