Re: The Instructor, The Man, and the Job - History on the life of Charles R. Allen

If you are really serious about this biographical study, census records will list household members (moms, dads, sons, daughters, aunts, uncles, etc.) They can be individually traced. Sometimes you can dig up college or university affiliations and check their records. Local newspapers often carried articles about school, armed forces, jobs, etc. of their citizens, creating more and more leads to follow to complete a picture of the individual's life and marriages, children, etc. Obituaries (especially the ones in local papers versus national ones which only carry highlights of the events that made the decedent newsworthy) may name other relatives. Obituaries of others with the same last name may name your target as a survivor. Sadly, most of these records are not yet digitized (some are in microfilm, but many more are still in hard copy folders in newspaper morgues), but more and more are being copied every day and entered into Ancestry.com and Mormon databases.

The point is: genealogical research is a labor-intensive task and not a casual notion to satisfy in an afternoon. Other than idle curiosity, do you have a reason to make this connection? If not, you'll probably get discouraged by blind alleys and sheer time spent on the search before you achieve closure as to the YES or NO question of connection.

It is more the "casual notion to satisfy in an afternoon" type of question. I have family records going back quite a way, and was just curious about whether this was "another branch that could be grafted back on the tree." Several relatives were authors of one sort or another, but this would have been the first notable in my chosen field.

During World War I, the Emergency Fleet Corporation of the United States Shipping Board implemented an urgent training program to support the training of shipyard workers due to a ten-fold increase in demand of the number of workers required. Due to this demand, only non-experienced workers were available and they needed to be trained.
Quote:
Charles Allen had been a vocational instructor who had developed and presented his views on industrial training prior to WWI and later in his book published in 1919. Therefore, Allen was asked to head the training program set-up by the Emergency Fleet Corporation to address the vast training need of the shipyard workers. Allen used his four-step method, as described below, to train the shipyard workers:
