Gage R&R on Involute Gears (Over 2 pins measurement)

Hi,

I want to perform a gage R&R (Crossed) on Gears (involute) over 2-pin measurement.
Does it matter to measure exactly same space between two teeth. Basically,do I need to mark two teeth to put the pins between them and ask inspector measure?Or let the inspectors to put pins between any two teeth and measure it.

Please see attached file.

Thanks,
Arby

Mark the locations and take the measurements in the same locations. This will allow you to separate the actual measurement variation from the within part variation.

There are a number of threads on this topic as well as my blog entry on Within Part Variation if you are interested in more detail.
