Hello,
I can't play most of the mp4 files downloaded from Youtube, eventhough after installing latest 'k lite codec pack'. I'd tried software such as wmp, vlc, quicktimes, either it didn't play at all, or it play audio only.
Not sure I can get help here in this forum.
How can I play these mp4 files?
Please help.
Thank you!!

What method/software are you using to download/capture the videos from YouTube? I suspect that may be you problem. VLC will play just about any file. If VLC will not play it, it's probably a "bad" file.

One option is to try converting your files to a different format, like AVI or WAV (there are some open-source conversion programs out there if you do a diligent search on Google)....but I agree with Marc about VLC player, it does recognize many different formats and can be played on more than one type of OS, but if you run out of options in the player field, a conversion tool may be the next logical step. :2cents:

Brian

Please help further.
Looks like the OK mp4 has longer 'media-info'.

Thanks again for your time & advise.

I run into the same problem a fair bit and nothing will play it but it usually turns out to mean that a new revision of the VLC program has come out.

When I download the new version of VLC player, it won't play videos downloaded previously, but videos downloaded with the new version will. They will also play with other programs too.

I suspect that this 'expired time' is built into VLC player and its also designed to affect other programs.

First, I advise getting rid of Real Player and all of the garbage it's put on your hard drive. I'm using Windows 8, Firefox 21.0, and an add-on called Download Flash and Video. My default media player is VLC 2.0.6, which is the latest version.

I have no trouble downloading media files, including MP4s from YouTube, and playing them with VLC.

Agreed. RealPlayer has caused me nothing but grief in the past, including the issue under discussion.

I'm using OS windows7. Please teach me solution after getting rid of realplayer. I like realplayer because it allows easier downloading via youtube or other video files, with just a click on the pop-up 'download button'.

Thanks a lots.

Try the suggestion Jim gave.

Sometimes the easiest way isn't always the best way; Realplayer may seem easier for you, but if it's not working, it doesn't make sense to keep using it, right?
