Please Help! Software requirement specification study vs. Predeployment study in software company

Anyone from software industry, can please explain me the difference between the two terms

1. Software requirement specification study and
2. Predeployment study

I am trying to improve upon the SRS process. Currently we have a process but these two terms are confusing end users very much.

We want to have a template and checklist for SRS (or PDS??? )

Thanks and regards,

Anyone who can help out here? I apologise - I can't help out - It's beyond my 'scope'.

This is a shot in the dark here as I'm currently working on ISO 9001:2000 registration and working towards a CMMI Level 3 for my small software company and learning all of this myself.

From reading your post I would say that in the context being used here the first element would be related to specifications and the second to deployment conditions. With the specifications being done as part of the predeployment study.

The predeployment study would seem to be analyzing all of the conditions for deploying some type of system. This can include how to "package the code", how to deliver the code to the customer, how to install it, making sure it will work on the required platforms, timing issues, support issues and so on.

Now going back to the first one about software requirement specification study this seems to be looking at only one aspect of a potential deployment.

It sounds to me like what you need is a process for doing a predeployment study and that one of those sub-processes or procedures would be to analyze the specifications.

Hope that helps and I would be interested to see if you have made any progress since posting.
