Mouse and Rat Trap Restrictions in Food Production
Dear all,
Is there any restriction on using baits stations with toxic materials for mouse or rats inside food production areas? as long as the bait is confined and the responsibilities of checking the traps periodicaly is clearily defined and monitored.
Thanks all

Any takers on this one? I assume you're not referring to restaurants, but rather to food processing plants.
Also - What country?

I spoke with a friend in the food industry and he said in the US nothing toxic inside the building. For mice, for example, they use 'sticky' pads where a mouse or rat sticks to the pad. He said each is logged and checked daily.
However, he couldn't cite a specific regulation. He did say he will try to find out (not his area of expertise).

This is how we do it in our pharmaceutical manufactuirng plant. In addition, we keep an 18-inch space (painted yellow) next to all walls so that we can inspect for pests and place and change traps. The buggers usually travel right against a wall, so the glue traps and "Ketch All" traps are assigned positions along the walls at least at each entry point in the building.
For drugs, the regulation is found in 21CFR:

For food plants, this sort of procedure should be addressed in their Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan.
