Michael,

Before you can make a comparison you have to have at least two different things to compare. PPAP is part of the output of the APQP process, but you need to clarify your question.

jacktplt,

Simply put;

The goal of APQP is to produce a quality plan that supports the development of a product or service that will satisfy the customer. (AIAG APQP Manual Page #1)

The goal of PPAP is to have an approved warrant in place so production parts may be sent to the customer.

Contract--->APQP--->PPAP---> = Production

Just to extrapolate on Al's response, and based on my own interpretation of the PPAP process;

The PPAP is intended to demonstrate to the customer that the tooling, processese and controls that you have developed and implemented are capable of consistently meeting the customers requirements as shown on the customer print, purchase order, quality manual, and other documentation.

The PPAP is (generally) the 'best you will ever be', and should be able to be used as a benchmark against which all further production is measured.

Hope this is some help to you. If not, I'd be happy to go into further detail, either here or privately.

A good nutshell description.

So much for continuous improvement . Actually, there is nothing about PPAP that says anything about the best it will ever be or any sort of benchmark.
