I was disappointed there was no further mention of Muggle authorities beyond the strained opening involving the British P.M. It made the whole interchange between the Ministers of Magic and the P.M. seem farcical and gratuitous without advancing the plot.
My assumption was that this was introduced to show that the Death Eaters weren't just impacting the magic world but the Muggle world as well. The PM just illustrated the magnitude of the impact. Perhaps we'll see more interaction in Book 7.

5. House elf Kreach may have the locket in his "stash"
My guess is that it was the thief Mundungus. Since Regulus Black was formerly a Death Eater, it makes sense that he's RAB. He probably took the locket and brought it back to the family house. I'm tempted (but too lazy) to re-read the passage where Harry spotted Mundungus, and Mundungus dropped a number of the pilfered items. Was there a locket in that stash?

It is interesting that in the UK the book is called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I wonder why the difference in titles - what is the commercial advantage.
I've never heard of the Mud Blood Prince title version. I bought mine from Amazon here in the US and it was Half Blood.

The question that intrigues me is, what was it that convinced Dumbledore to trust Snape (who I'm positive is a good guy)?

I think the most amazing thing about this series is that adults not only read it, but also take the time to post about it on the internet. Guilty as charged.

I am drawn to the Harry Potter series for a number of reasons. I am drawn to stories where there is clear good and clear evil. (I love Star Wars for that reason) I like mysteries, and as a kid, I spent a lot of time looking for secret passageways and buried treasure, (thanks to Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden). I'm not at all sure I ever outgrew all that...

I tried the Lemony Snicket series and did not like it at all. The plots are just not well developed. I sold the first three for 45 cents at a garage sales this weekend.

Whatever its plot problems are, I'm enjoying the Potter series very much and will be sad to have them end.

Oh, and it is Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Doi!

Actually, we all knew that, but "mud blood" is really a better title! The "slip" shows that you reject the "politically correct" title, as should we all!

I have to laugh! As far as I know, "Mudblood" is a fabricated racial slur for a witch or wizard with Muggle bloodlines, is in no way real, and here we are being careful about its use in the event that we offend a fictional character.

It is true that I wondered why she didn't just call Snape a Mudblood instead of a Halfblood. It's not like she danced around the term in any other book. Would any of us have gasped if the title HAD been Mudblood Prince?
