Unhappy DownSized Right Out of a Job - Regulatory Engineer

It's been awhile since I visited the forums. Last Thursday I was let go with 75 other people in our division. Company totals are going to be more than 300. Job performance had little to do with selection, it looks like it was based on salaries.

Anyway, I am now seeking employment in the Indianapolis or Cincinnati area. I am a Sr. Regulatory Engineer, with experience in the Electronic Medical Device field. Related standards and quality systems I work with iclude: IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-2-38, ISO 13485, ISO 9001, ISO 17025. Recent responsibilities included direct supervision of two associates in a test laboratoy responsible for documentation and test equipment control, design verification test planning and scheduling. I was also responsible for maintaining compliance to the company's quality system (ISO 13485), as well as our lab accreditations, UL's CTDP, VDE's TDAP, and ETL's SAT programs. Was also preparing for accreditation to ISO 17025.

Contact me at: 812-934-8086, or Hm: 812-932-0554.
Thank you,
Dan Wood

Ouch - been there more often than I'd like to have been over the years, but not recently, and not in the same industry. No real leads for you, but I recently hooked up with a recruiter named Bill Elias out of NJ and he seems to have generated more interest in a short time than others I've dealt with over the years. Not certain if they deal with the medical industry, (my background in metallurgy, currently working in a QA position) but their site is: www.eliasassociates.com Hope it helps you.

Good luck - RIF's are survivable, but not in the least enjoyable!

Bummer!
Look at these threads for some practical advice in your search.
Tips to get past the "gatekeeper" when job hunting
Resume and cover letter - How good are yours?

Especially, look at this particular post before you deal with a recruiter.
Dealing with recruiters: What if a job is listed after.... (Post 4)
It describes the three major types of recruiters and how to deal with them.

It may have been a while since you were in the job market. Be prepared for some really rude behavior on the part of employers and recruiters. Above all, please read through the website I freely recommend of Richard Bolles, the author of "What Color Is Your Parachute?"

Good luck on your search!

Hi All,
Well, I am once again employed. I cannot believe it took nearly 6 months. Thanks to having saved some cash, and dipping into some of my retirement funds, I have remained above water and my credit has not suffered.

I want to thank everyone who sent me private messages or contacted me offering help and even job opportunities.

I have had to relocate, and still in the process of selling one home and buying another. I have returned to my home state of Michigan and working in the Grand Rapids area.

My compliance expertise is now being applied to home appliance type products (IEC 60335 type stuff), as well as the lab accreditation program (ISO 17025). I believe I am working for a great company and am happy with my position. Hopefully, I can stay at this one for a very long time.

Thank you again to everyone for support and help.
-Dan-

Great! I'm truly happy for you. Thanks for updating us! When you come up for air, I'd sure appreciate it if you would start a new thread on "lessons learned" in your job search (wins, losses, blind alleys, etc.) for the benefit of our other Covers.

Default Great news!

That's terrific news Dan, I'm delighted things are back on track.

I hope you'll take Wes up on his suggestion - a great idea.
