Welcome Steve
I am new too. I love Irish music, quality, chemistry and art, not necessarily in that order.
What has been your greatest challenge in quality? Do you have experience in 6 Sigma?

Hi Jackie! I see we have the "West Coast/East Coast" time disconnect here...
I'm new to this whole "forum & discussion" thing too.
...My greatest challenge in Quality, Hmmm... At this point, it's getting back up to speed. I guess really though, the first company I worked for didn't have a quality department so the biggest challenge there was just starting the entire program from scratch - and right out of college too! Second company was going from no certification to ISO 9001 so it was upgrading an entire quality system from minimal coverage to a certifiable system. (both were successful!) Currently, it's taking a portion of our quality system - specifically vendor certification - and making it something useful that doesn't just contribute to "overhead" but actually creates data that is useful to Purchasing, Engineering, etc. I'm trying to create a good vendor survey and feedback loop that is simple (we're a small company) but generates useful data - that's why I joined "The Cove" to see if I could find help here!
6-Sigma experience - yep, I've had that too. I was a Certified Shanin Statistical Engineer and when I was with GE (design portion of my engineering and Ultrasound experience), I went through the 6-Sigma Green Belt training program. The two systems are similar and are both great for putting stastical significance into the old "SWAG" system of problem solving.
...and glad to hear you like Irish Music - tomorrow's our "big day" for singing all those Irish Tunes! It gives me a good excuse to leave work early!

Hello everyone
Well, I started at this site looking for a good powerpoint presentation to use for training and found all kinds of neet topics. I will surely never get anything done now that I have so much to read. OK here is my backround...
1. Gordon Smith
2. RA/QA Manager
3. In QA since 1982 and in medical devices since 1989
4. NAI Tech Products is where I am now
5. Length of time in quality function = 24 years
6. I like to makeitsimple (hense my ID )
7. I would say my pet peeve in quality is procedures longer than 7 pages
8. I would want all state universities to offer a B.A. or B.S. in Quality Assurance
Marc, thanks for an awsome form and BTW, I like the last name

Hello, I just tripped over your forum looking for ways to identify and document Continual Improvement better than we are now doing.
1. Risa
2. Been in the same company 18 years the last 3 in Quality
3. Manufacturer, T1 supplier to the Heavy Truck Automotive Industry
4. We are going for TS Audit in June.
5. 18 years 3 of them officially in the QA Department
6. I like my job, and the company I work for, believe it or not.
7. The lack of understanding of what a Quality System actually means to everyone in the company not just the QA staff
8. I think there is a lot of over analyzing and spending too much time on stuff that can be kept simple. The most efficient way to improve is common sense and responsibility.

1. Robyn Wiemer
2. My official title is Controller, but I actually do anything that anyone else doesn't do. This includes working with Accounting, IT, Quality, Operations, etc.
3. I am currently working in a Paper Mill but have worked in the Dairy Industry and Highway Construction
4. Mule Hide Manufacturing in Northern Wisconsin
5. Not currently in the quality function but work closely with them.
6. Currently hold Green Belt Six Sigma and will be training for my Black Belt later this year. Our company is following the concept of Six Sigma and Lean as part of everyones job. It is definately proving itself.
7. If it doesn't meet spec, don't ship it, it makes more work for everyone along the way.
8. If you could change the world of quality, what would you do?
