Reading Gauge Output Into Excel .xls - Mitutoyo digital plunger type depth gauges
Hi All
We have some Mitutoyo digital plunger type depth gauges which have an output lead running through a multiplexer and outputting via an RS232 lead into the COM port of a PC, and the data output is currently being read by some SPC software.
Due to a requirement for a bulk inspection process I would like to simply take the output from the gauge and dump it into Excel.
Has anyone achieved this, and what are the basic steps ?

We have tried, several years ago, but with out any success. Does your software allow for exporting to Excel?

Hi, we currently do this using a piece of software called Winwedge (from a company called Taltech) it's a data acquisition program which allows collection of data via the RS232 and also allows the program to output to the instrument via RS 232 (we use it so that when a specific barcode is entered the gauge assigned to that barcode is the only one which will work). I would need to check with the IT guys the specifics of setting it up, but can find out more if required.
Best of luck anyway

I have some Windmill software that alludes to doing the same thing, but the set up is somewhat beyond my limited IT knowledge.
Keeps talking about handshakes and request/receive, etc, etc

SPC output into Excel
We have this and curently use them as well. We have no problem putting the data into Excel. Contact your IT department have them set it up for you if you are not very computer literate. Also, get a foot pedal to click each data entry which will free up the inspector/operator's hands to handle the parts.
