"Total Preventive Maintainance"
Who issues the certification? Wouldn't it be best to just ask the issuer what the requirements are?

Just did a search for TPM Certification and discovered an article about a company that actually received a certificate in this field! The TPM Certificate is issued by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance. There's a "club" in India dedicated towards this JIPM approach.

Nutshell summary, it's an approach towards routine and improvement management processes within an organization and involves all levels of personnel.

ISO 9001 would probably be a foundation to establishing/strengthening one of the pillars of the TPM methodology. Being registered to ISO 9001 would probably assist in providing evidence that the applicable requirements of the TPM Certificate have been met, but even if not registered, having a system that conforms to the requirements would probably still help.

As to whether or not it is a requirement, I suggest you contact JIPM or a representative at this "club" in India.

Hope that helps.

TPM x ISO

Hello folks ,

Nowadays I'm working in an international group that adopts TPM as major "philosophy" for industrial excelence in all its plants.
Here are some info to you all:

a. The concept of 3 letters means more than original intention (Total Productive Maintenance) when it was launched in Japan by JIPM (Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance). Today TPM is inserted as part of WCOM (World Class Operation Management).

b. TPM Award isn't any kind of audit or surveillance or certification related to ISO. It's just a prize and has several categories according level of maturity of TPM program in your plant.

c. TPM 8 pillars (groups of work) intend to achieve ZERO LOSSES by total involvement of people and combined results of small groups of work.

d. Unfortunately JIPM office for Americas had been closed in 2004 and now only contact is made by japanese office.

Attached is oficial guide of application to JIPM TPM Award (this 2005 version).
Hope this can help you.
Regards.

To my knowledge the TPM is well known concept in asia .the TPM is first started by the japanese people & now all other companies are fallowing the foot steps of the japanese firms by implementing TPM.
I dont know for what reason this TPM concept is not recognised or not given much importance in western world.
