Drawing (Print) Symbol - Need Help With
I'm hoping one of the great guru's out there can hlp me with this one. We have a drawing with these two symbols on it. No one seems to be able to define their exact meaning.
It's Monday and I am pleading stupid

If you're stupid, I'll keep you company. I've never seen those symbols, and a glance through some of the reference material I have here wasn't any help. I also ran them past a few of the engineers here and came up empty. They look like some sort of inexplicable CAD artifacts.

James,
After looking at it it appears to be a 6 Surface Finish (with a little more tail), but I could be wrong.

I think your interpretation requires more imagination than should normally be required in reading drawings. The symbol on top looks more like a malformed musical note than a surface finish callout, and the bottom one looks like some sort of proofreading symbol.

I just talked with one of my engineering folks and they think that the Symbol represents Finish this side, not Micro finish. It is an old symbol.
What is the date of revision of the drawing in question?

I think he may be on to something. My first thought was that the one looked like an old symbol used oncastins to denote which surfaces to machine. The other (the check with the circle) I had no idea about.
The drawing is rev'd 1-25-94.
Of course I don't know what the last revision of the drafter was.

The circle could mean welding required, but not sure about that one. It looks like weld around, but without really seeing the full drawing I am only guessing.

Time to ask the customer (or whomever the drawing belongs to) but don't be too surprised if they don't know either.
