Good link.

Summary: In statistics, regression analysis is used to model relationships between random variables, determine the magnitude of the relationships between variables, and can be used to make predictions based on the models.

Sir ,
Thank u for ur kind reply,we are the spring manufacturer for the oil seal.
The process for making the spring - winding the coil on the mandrel with a required diameter ,the resultant coildiameter involves the addition of spring back property.
Now we try to express the relationship between the mandrel diameter to coil diameter based on the material type of spring wire.
I need the details for planning the experiment,If required I send the technical details also

Senthil Kumar

hi, i think my concern is somewhat similar to his concern only that I plan to use linear regression analysis in determing the lifespan of a certain machine part. do you know a method or process on how i will be able to determine the variables (independent or dependent) to measure so that i could create a realistic result?

thank you guys for any help.

You need to provide additional information on what you are attempting to accomplish. On the surface, that fact that you are dealing with the life of a product indicates that you may need to use a reliability method such as weibull analysis over regression. If you provide more detail, we can better assist you.
