AS9101, I believe is PPAP for the aerospace sector. If you are not familiar with automotive PPAP --- PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)is a series of 15 documents suppliers must send their customer before shipping production quantities of their product.

AS9100 will also have sanctioned interpretations, just like QS-9000.

Now that IS0 9000 : 2K is approved, anyone have an idea how quickly AS9100 : 2K will get the final approval?

AS9100 rev 1? is supposed to be released mid 2001. This new revision is supposed to follow the ISO 9K2K format. The current version of AS9100 will co-exist along with AS9100 rev 1 until November of 2003.........so I am told.

I just received a copy of AS 9101 (Quality System Assessment) from SAE. It reminds me of the QSA document that is the compliment to the QS 9000 (automotive/AIAG) standard. Some of the grammar is questionable where they have tried to re-phrase the requirements in the form of a question but I will use it as a guide to beef up our existing audit checklists in preparation for an AS 9100 cert audit. I don't think I will use it for its intended purpose......an actual audit checklist.

Question

Does anyone know if there is a matrix to compare ISO9000:2000 and AS9100 (latest version)? I am trying to write a system that will comply with both. It will be easier if I have some comparison matrix!!

AS9100 is supposed to be revised so it shares the same outline as ISO 9K2K, so I am told. I do not know the status of this revision though. The original version of AS9100 is/was twenty elements just like ISO 9001:1994. There is a cross reference matrix (ISO 9K2K to ISO 9001:1994) in ISO/Committee Draft 1 9001/2000 that would be a good starting point. Once the new version of AS9100 becomes available, a matrix should no longer be needed.
