What are the Current OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 Revisions & Combined Systems
hi , i got some question and i hope i get here direct answer to it, - 1- what is the latested updated standard for OHSAS 18001 and the 14001, like which is the last one like i think 14001-1996, am i right? correct me please and what bout the OHSAS what is last one ?
- also which is the best i am at my company they want to get ISO TS1649 and OHSAS 18001, toghter, but, i am trying to convince them that we should seek to get all integrated the ISO and the 14001 and the 18001, what do you guys think? is it better?
- or is it less cost or more cost?
- can we get seek to get all, or step by step first ISO and 18001,
- what other companies and experanice people do actully?
- also i have an idea like i want my company to adopt two system, the OHSA Occupational Health and Safety Administration the American system, and used there form, and there specified standard applicable to us regarding safety issues, and also the OHSAS 18001, i beleive to my recent background, that OHSAS 18001 is just Safety Management system, like you have to make a record according to 18001 specification, but they don't force you to follow kinda any format like first aid report etc. got what i mean?!
- so my question can i do that and can we state in our policy that we follow 18001 safety management system and also adopted OHSA for more redundancy and guidance in our safety managment system alos our local regulation.
once again i hope i get nice and direct answer to my questions, if any question not clear please ask me again, i would state it in diffrent way.
thanks appreciate it
good day

Re: OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 Revisions & Combined Systems
The latest versions :
ISO 14001 : 2004 11 15
OHSAS 18001 : 1999 (with an amendment in 2002)
If you look near the bottom of this page here you will find threads / links that are discussing those items. You will find that a new version of OHSAS 18001 is on its way.
As for the other questions I think you have to explain what the present situation is in your company and what resources will be available to implement all these.
Best regards,
Antoine

There are several common elements between these three standards. These can be integrated into a single, joint system or a combination of any of the above. Audit of joint systems are available and may be the best method for some companies.
Integrated systems not only help an organization internally, by reducing duplication and providing a centralized document control system, but may also offer cost benefits for your third-party audit (can save audit mandays, etc.).

Re: OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 Revisions & Combined Systems
The first amendment to the orginal OHSAS 18001 has been released in 2002.
For the moment they are working on a new version of the standard of which the releasedate has not been given yet. See threads on the bottom of this page here.
Best regards,
Antoine

Re: What are the Current OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 Revisions & Combined Systems
hey, Antoine i am here again, i got one more question i just heard from by colleague the OHSAS 18001 is not under ISO, the only ISO is 14001 and 9001 etc, is it right? 18001 made and developed by BSI, and people adopted it as there was demand from customer to get the safety certified, am i correct?
kind regards

Re: What are the Current OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 Revisions & Combined Systems
Husain,
Yes, OHSAS 18001 is not by ISO. This is like a specification developed by BSI and was created via the concerted effort from a number of the worlds leading national standards bodies, certification bodies, and specialist consultancies.
You can download the amendments for free at this website http://www.bsi-emea.com/OHS/Standards/index.xalter
