The Significance of Lean and Six Sigma Outside Manufacturing - Thesis Questionnaire
I am currently completing my Thesis for my masters degree and would like to get a good global response. The questionnaire is concentrating on determing the significance of Lean and Six Sigma outside manufacturing. In return I am willing to share the results for your future use. I would really appreciate anyone filling out the survey or passing to colleagues. I also need responses from organisations who do not use Six Sigma/Lean or alternative program. Thanks in advance.

Thank you!

Sure. From an American small manufacturer that neither uses 6s nor Lean.

Thanks both. This is great. Thank you so much for your help. The more responses I get, the more accurate my analysis.
I really appreciate it.

Re: The Significance of Lean and Six Sigma Outside Manufacturing - Thesis Questionnaire
We don't use 6S or Lean officially...yet the approaches are unofficially there. Officially, though, they'll be incorporated in the near future so my answers are based from a site that doesn't use them.
This was a hot topic at a recent meeting of my counter-parts from our North American sites. If we had implemented the methodologies for our Business System properly, we wouldn't need to "implement" Lean. It would have been part of what we inherently do. If we had taken the approach to embrace these tools and methods and processes in a more effective manner instead of a "makes work" attitude, the concepts of waste elimination and efficiently would have been naturally encompassed by us.
The main reason for us now phasing the idea of "Lean' into our culture is because we didn't adhere to the old adage of "do it right the first time". Or rather, at my location, we did it right...but took the more scenic (and less effective) means to accomplish it.
Darn....Paul, can you include what I just said as part of my additional comments to the last question?

RC,
I love it. "The Scenic means" (or route). I bet many can identify with that one.

Paul,
I have just completed the survey. The questions are very interesting. Do share the results of your survey.
