Question Did you know about ASQ Membership value Assessment Calculator?

I was reading the previous thread: Should I renew ASQ membership? I remembered this report that I obtained from ASQ recently.

Did you know that ASQ has a membership ROI Calculator?
http://www.asq.org/members/value-assessment/
This require member log in.

I was planning to use the output of this calculator to recruit new members for ASQ.
After 3 follow-up, I finally got the report. (Job transition delay was cited).
Please find attached is the data collected from the Calculated and a report from ASQ.

Following was my feedback to ASQ after reviewing the report.

1.Idea of having an ROI calculator is a good start however, this seem to be not thought out on all aspects.
2.Approximately there are 60 respondents/ month for the 6 months interval in the report. The cumulative response turns out to 0.37% of ASQ membership. I believe ASQ could do much better than this by providing the Link to the ROI calculator page from the home page.
3.Out of 356 respondents, only 38% is usable scores as per the sheet. With such a low turnout of respondents, ASQ should see how to reduce the non usable scores (i.e. provide guidelines for entering $ value, dropdown menu $ bands for fields with most errors.
4.Provide printable formats to ASQ sections so that can survey the program attendees and mail to HQ.
5.Publish the results periodically to spread awareness.
6.Use metrics from this analysis in the Living Community Model reports.
7.If ASQ is serious about these inputs from members, current approach to collect this valuable data needs to be improved.

Anyone else see the value of the output (if properly collected, compiled & analyzed)? Any suggestions for improving this ROI calculator?

Do we now believe that correlation=causation?

To do so would be significantly irresponsible, imo. The method and conclusions are patently ridiculous, and in no way provide any real empirical evidence of the value of ASQ membership. I'm not a member, and that's partly because of things like this, but I'm not so foolish as to deny that there's any benefit, but to attempt to quantify in terms of arbitrary, groupthink-filtered actual economic value is ludicrous.

No kidding. I have another idea. Let's take all of the male members of ASQ, and find out how many, over the last 20 years, have switched from boxer shorts to briefs. When we have that number, then we can chart the economic impact of the changeover. My null hypothesis is that we will see a correlation between steadily increasing rates of pay and the starting point of wearing briefs instead of boxers which will be proportional to the elapsed time between the onset of brief-wearing and the date of the survey. If my hypothesis proves correct, then ASQ can go into the business of selling special rate-of-pay enhancing jockey shorts.

As a Discordian I should be throwing random numbers in there.
But I'll refrain this one time.

But I'm with Jim, though not as eloquent.

Interesting reading!

you may want to add a question to the "randomly" selected attendees of ASQ World conference, who pays for the conference and 2 or 3 days hotel, and 3/4 days away from work?

the research is based on the 'feelings' of the 'biased' samples, IMHO.

Roland,
Thanks for the constructive comment.
Actually ASQ did do what you suggested. If you read the word attachment, there is hyperlink that leads to
http://www.asq.org/media-room/news/2...ber-value.html

On the same subject:
I mentioned “I was planning to use the output of this calculator to recruit new members for ASQ”. I did not say I am going to use now.
As a responsible quality practitioner, I did review the process, relevance & representation of the data, statistical principles behind the analysis, and provided feedback to ASQ instead using it straight way. As a responsible ASQ member, obtained approval to share with public, get feedback for improvement and submit to ASQ. I still think it is a good idea but not executed well. Member Value in terms of $$$ (though subjective), always come up in discussion with potential members. To be fair, ASQ did provide some guidelines for filling up the calculator. Unless some one is a member they cannot read those guidelines in the member only area. Based on the current subjectivity in the data capture, low usable score, I suggested areas of improvement. I certainly welcome your constructive feedback.

Regards,
Govind.
