Memberships of Professional Institutes
Folks,
How many of you have any membership and affiliations with Internationally accepted applicable professional Institutes or Societies (Quality Management/Assurance)? if some one wants to join those Institutes , what are the requirements and procedures that should be followed ?
thanks,
Samer

The ASQ is recognized. Go to their website: http://www.asq.org/ and you can see what the requirements are to become a member.

To join just follow their directions.

Straight to the point Randy. That is what I like about your postings.

Re: Memberships of Professional Institutes
In the UK, the main professional body in this field is the Institute of Quality Assurance (although it will be changing its name soon.)

Re: Memberships of Professional Institutes
At one time (before it got really expensive and I had to pay my own dues), I belonged to every Division in ASQ plus three Sections.
In addition, I was a member of SAE and ASME.
Today, my professional society memberships are limited to just one society:
ASQ (three Divisions - and two Sections (Chicago and Northeastern Illinois)
Personally, I don't see any reason to join a professional society EXCEPT to add to one's professional education via journals and seminars PLUS the networking within the general field with peers and gurus at meetings and to have an additional point of reference with folks at customers and suppliers.
The downside is that folks who aspire to office within a society are frequently just looking to pad a resume, not advance the cause of the society. Dealing with such folks to improve a society for its members can be very frustrating for the officers who are really altruistic and dedicated to the cause.
