Default TE Supplement & Service Providers - An FYI

Subject: Re: QS 9000 IN SERVICES INDUSTRIES
Date: Wed, 11 Nov 1998 10:30:14 -0500
From: Dan

Some service providers have already been included in TE-9000, second edition. Note references to manufacturing Services in Applicability Section.

Also notice requirements to include Electronic Communication, Y2K, and calibration, registrar training, CAD/CAE design, warehousing, transportation, etc. (all non-production services) in the QS document.

Also notice requirements for APQP, described in QS-9000 clause 4.2.3.1., which defines product as either "product or service."

The Big-3 are actively cutting their Supply base and there is no reason to believe Service providers will be exempt.

Also note the direction which ISO: 9000 for 2000 is going with re-emphasis on ISO 9004.

The issue will be the direction TR16949 (potential QS & ISO 9000 replacement) takes on Service providers.

Our Customers already argue that changes to QS-9000, Third Edition, clause 4.19, and clause 4.4 (where Services are "designed") are already including Service providers. It looks like the industry is heading that way.

It is interesting to note that in TR16949 (draft), service is mentioned directly in section 4.2.4 as well as in the Scope statement. It would be interesting to see how far registrars have "dug" into the service area or how much the B3 (or other automotive makers) have required of their service providers. The service area doesn't seem to get a lot of press.
