Lead Assessor 5 day course

I have a registered Lead Assessor 5 day course to offer....and its doing OK...but I get some inquiries about having that same course spread out ..evenings, weekly...as some would like to attend and can not justify an entire week away from their job. the course cannot be changed if it is registered...i.e. it is structured as a continuous session of 4.5 days.
Doing it over time is easy, but it would not offer the RAB/IRCA opportunity. My question here is how many who take the course actually go on to be reistered? Would it be an option worth my while to run the course for educational purposes rather than registration purposes and service the evening class audience?

Have done that with the QS registered course...now as an option, it resembles an "implementation" course..and am thinking about doing the same for the 14000 one. But ISO 9000 has been implemented to death...so my plan there is to keep it a LA subject, but just stretch the sessions out (less like a boot camp...LOL)....what is the consencus of the group? Does anyone see a need for that?

I've taken and passed the lead auditor class but have no intention of getting registrared as an auditor. My main purpose for taking the class was to learn more about ISO so we could implement it here. If I remenber correctly there were about 10 of us in the class and only one person planned on getting registared, the rest were there for the same reason I was. If I had the opportunity then I would of liked the optioned of spreading the class out so I didn't miss and entire work week.

I took the lead a course in 1994 and am taking it again this Month. IRCA said something about 3 years.

Bottom line is the first time I just wanted to take it as I was implementing but this time I plan to 'use' it. I knw a lot of folks who take/took the course who had no intention of registering.

I wouldn't begin to guess per centages or such, tho.

Yes marc..if you do not 'register' then you are required to renew after a 3 year period if you then decide to follow through....if you still do not plan to register, then there is no need. Why not try a different route...there are QS and ISO 14k lead assessor courses offered......both meet the requirements of IRCA for Lead Assessor..and you get something a little different added.

I am running an ISO Lead Assessor in October for the local ASQ section...and plan to see about offering audit time to attendees through a local registrar and/or through the ASQ where a local company calls ASQ for a system audit, ASQ sets them up with a lead auditor from a pool...who takes along a trainee. The LA bills the company for his time at a set price of $600 a day. The company gets a reasonable priced audit (preassessment?), the LA gets work, the trainee gets 'audit hours' logged. A WIN/WIN for all involved...ASQ even gets good press. Some of the LAs in the pool even offer to pay a small fee to the trainee...but that is optional.

When I checked out the courses there was a requirement for the QS course - I can't remember what it was. Or maybe I misunderstood. I ended up just signing up for a Stat-A-Matric course. I've not been terribly happy with their courses in the past, but there was an avalability on a week I have off and would be near a location - so I did it. Will see what happens next! Will I pass? Damn - I HATE Tests...

Requirement is continuous 4.5 days..as a registered course. If its a registered course, it has to be pretty equal...thats why its registered. Its all tutor dependant, and they have to be approved as well....so its pretty fair to say price and location and timing are the main factors. You can take that course and have some real fun and excitement if you drop the test part and add hands on stuff...but then its not registered any more...but you get more out of it, from the same certified trainers....we are doing that for ASQ in october here in Worcester and i am looking forward to it...will be a learning experience for me...my UK guy is running it.

Will you be going on to AIAG, Marc? if you need a registrar sponsor let me know. Its a tough one. thats why we decided to offer the QS class in that format...as AIAG only requires ISO Lead Assessor....so this will me more informational as prep for the AIAG exam or for implementation purposes and not need to detail the ISO auditor stuff, just the QS twists. More time spent on the meat, if you will. We offer the same info over 1 or 2 day sub groups over a months time...weekly in the UK.....and 1 solid week here (keeps UK travel cost down)..looking to bring me up to speed to be able to offer all options here as well.

I'll let you know about the QS sponsor thing, barb. Right now I'm doing the IRCA registration in part because I figure I may be able to use 'legal' auditing to fill in some blanks in my schedule over the next year should that occur. I'm a 'paranoid' person - not having 'regular' employment with consideration to the fact that I have to sell my services I'm looking to auditing as a 'back-up'. And I am starting with the IRCA because 1) I think the RAB stinks in many way and 2) because the IRCA will accept registrations in lieu of some audits.

AiAg recognizes both as well so you would be IRCA/AIAG...I agree its a great filler..and keeps the skills up and the contacts are awesome. I'm also on the same page re IRCA.
