Default Re: ISO 14001 - RoHS

Only if you are supplying product into European markets covered by the RoHS directive (or any other country / state that has similar requirements). In which case 4.3.2 comes into play and 4.5.2. So you have to assess the application of RoHS legislation to your company and comply with the requirements.

Hope this helps!

Please have a look here. This might provide you with some insight on the connection between RoHS and ISO 14001, from the perspective of an Accreditation Body.

RoHS: Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment 2002/95/EC[1] (commonly referred to as the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive or RoHS)

Six substances are restricted:

Lead
Mercury
Cadmium
Hexavalent chromium (chromium xxx or Cr6+)
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)

(in case some one was wondering)

ISO14001 is the model for an environmental management system, which amongst other things should ensure your companies compliance to environmental legislation.

This management system should capture the fact that the RoHS directive is an important new piece of environmental legislation, and then consider the impact of this on your business, and actions you need to take with regard to this.

So in short RoHS is a specific piece of environmental legislation that you management system has to address if necessary.

There is no connection between the two.

As told by all, the RoHS is an European directive while ISO 14001 is an EMS.

If you want to cover the RoHS through system, there is IECQ QC 080000 to help establish a system. This is a system for Hazardous Substance Process Management.

As posted earlier RoHS is invoked by legislation for suppliers of electrical equipment into the EU.

So if it applies you can't get ISO 14001 (wherever you manufacture) without meeting the requirements of the directive.
